It is when we are willing to take a moment and learn and relearn who we are, to listen to and hear what the world is teaching us, that we are able to find what inspires and drives us. It is surely in this meditative and reflective space that our passion, our fire, our spirit and driving force, is hidden. It is here that we are able to reach for, acknowledge, learn and live out our purpose.
I had an incredible morning of reflection today. I was talking to God this morning and I was asking for my heart to be transformed into one which is closer to the likeness of Christ. I was asking God to remind me of the most embedded and central aspects of who I am as person, which have guided me through life’s most interesting as well as challenging moments. It is in this meditative place that I was led to my blog, to read some of things that I have shared with all of you through the years so that I can learn from them, and through them be inspired to live truthfully and to never forget who I have always been. There is something incredibly powerful and enlightening about reading words you shared months and years ago when you were in a different place and at a different time, that can honestly lift your spirit and motivate you, particularly if you’re passing through a time in life when you have for a little second forgotten about your purpose, about your dreams, about what makes you hungry and drives you in life.
It’s so easy to be discouraged by life; by the schedules and lists that we have set for ourselves to guide us through day to day activities. Sometimes we are so focused on achieving or on being the best, and on accomplishing what we have always known is ours, that we neglect to take the time to slow down, reflect and actually be inspired by the simple everyday things like stories that people share with us, the smile of strangers, the change in the season, our interaction with other living and breathing bodies. Sometimes we are so distracted by doing, that we simply forget to breathe in that particular day. To see if the sun is shining different on the day, or to simply listen if the songs of the birds have changed since the last time you took the time to hear them.
We get so used to doing and doing and doing and to stressing about doing that before we know it, we wake up one day almost feeling lifeless. We wake up feeling like we are not inspired by much except by our desire to succeed according to what society is telling us success is. We wake up feeling like somewhere along the way we forgot and left behind some critical elements of who we are. The parts of ourselves that keep us optimistic about life. The parts of ourselves make us believe that anything is possible; that change in a world full of chaos is possible. The parts of ourselves that are always deeply honest about what we want in that particular moment of our lives; a want that might change depending on where the wind blows the next day. The parts of ourselves that see something amazing and we are able to take the time to write it so as to never forget. We lose touch with these parts because we don’t take the time to cultivate them, to appreciate them as fundamental to our being.
It is in this quiet and meditative space of solitude that I remember that I’ve never been one to dance to the drums of the world or to dance because everyone else is dancing. In this space, I remember to continue to dance to my own drums everyday and when the dance changes based on where my spirit is leading me to celebrate and follow suite. I yearn to be so connected to my spirit everyday, that I know without a doubt which beats are moving me and which direction they’re taking me. I desire to create this space as often as I can, and to be guided by it, so that I can see loud and clear what direction God is taking me, what is inspiring me and holding me back, and how effective I am in the lives of others.
I wish at every point to be inspired by my relationships that I see growth and transformation in myself and I see that same type of growth and transformation in those I am closest to. I pray to never succumb to just living for the sake of living or living according to a someone else standards. I want to live with the purpose God has given as driving force of what I do everyday. And when I am called to change direction and to step on a different path, I want that voice to be so loud and clear, that I have no squirms as to where I am headed. I want to remember that everyday can and should be great! That as I am living and walking across this life, I can and should be inspired by it and learn from it everyday! That sometimes when we are trodden and confused, all it takes to remember who we are is to have a reflective, prayerful and quiet moment. A moment which I can assure you can lead to so many self discoveries.
